RITMABO'S GENDER EQUALITY 2024 CHALLENGE EUROPE EVENTS:

PARLAMENT IN SWIMSUIT SUMMER CHALLENGE PARTICIPATION FROM
RitmAbo series producer, artistic director and artist Jussi Lindroos,
non-artistic self portrait 2024

"With this Summer 2024 Photo Challenge for European desicion
makers I wanted to encourage European parlament and national parlament representatives to discuss about
important topics like gender equality and body positivity regardless of gender or age. Personally,
appearing in a swimsuit has always been connected to a story that comes from my childhood – a situation
that required a lot of courage from a small child. In my freetime I enjoy much swimming and beach life,
but a scar like this is not always so pleasant to have. As a child and teenager I wished many times that
I would not have such a visible scar, because I felt it can identify me quite strongly. As an adult I
have also had to return to think this topic, because already as a child large number of people from
different backrounds, cultures and ages saw me with the scar."

REVIEWS - PRESS

"Lindroos' solos find their inspiration on in folk music, different cultures
and urban styles, and they are interesting in their modern approach.
The seamless negotiation of song, body music and tap show a particular skill."
,
Turun Sanomat

"The Man of Finnish Tap",
Helsingin Sanomat

"Jussi Lindroos, a Finn, has the lightest of whispering techniques",
The Financial Times

"Like tap itself -- born in early America of many disparate traditions --
the art of 21st-century European tap dancers reflects a world in which old and new are constantly blending, and fracturing.
Whether it is a young Finnish dancer like Jussi Lindroos experimenting with Nordic folk culture, or a Russian dancer using tap to push
the boundaries of circus acts, international artists are aggressively mixing their own traditions into an American form."
,
The New York Times

"--it's different from New York: when I look out of the window I see forest. Nature is really strong in the Finnish culture
-- I hear the same jazz tune in New York, in a jazz club, and then I might be listening to the same jazz tune here -- there's a lot of snow,
not much people around, the sun is setting", Jussi Lindroos in Whiteout by Claudia La Rocco, WNYC.org 93.9fm
